Bottom line
For heavy travelers, the Amex Platinum ($895) and Chase Sapphire Reserve ($795) pack the most travel value once the foreign fee is gone, and the Reserve's Visa is the easier card to hand over abroad. If you'd rather not pay much, the $95 Citi Strata Premier, Sapphire Preferred, and Venture Rewards all skip foreign transaction fees while still earning well, and the no-annual-fee Savor is the one to keep for trips where you just don't want to be surcharged.
