Best credit cards for groceries

Updated 2026-07-27

Groceries are one of the biggest recurring costs in most budgets, so the right card turns every weekly run into cash back or points. The fine print is where these cards split apart. Some cap the bonus rate, some define "supermarket" narrowly enough to leave out Walmart and Target, and some only reward grocery orders placed online. We ranked them on how much they pay at the register, how much you can spend before the rate drops, and whether you walk away with cash back or transferable points.

How we rank: We ranked by grocery earn rate first, then weighed the spending cap, how each card defines a qualifying supermarket, the annual fee, and whether rewards land as cash back or points you can move to travel partners.

Bottom line

If groceries are your single biggest category, the Blue Cash Preferred pays the most per dollar at 6% up to $6,000 a year, and the waived first-year fee lets you try it at no cost. Heavy grocery-and-dining spenders who value transferable points lean toward the Amex Gold and its $25,000 cap, while the Capital One Savor delivers 3% with no annual fee at all.
